Pewter Jewellery

Pewter is an ancient, soft, silvery grey metal which retains its gentle lustre with very little upkeep. Its first documented use was during the Bronze Age, with pewter utensils and weapons dating from 1450 BC having been discovered in Egypt. The first appearance of pewter in Europe occurred in the 11th century, when it was used only for religious artifacts or by the very wealthy for their tableware and ornaments. However over the next few hundred yeras, it became more widespread and by the 18th century, the use of pewter tableware reached its peak.
